Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Son Wrote A Little Prince Musical!!!
Awww! We’d LOVE to see this!
During a recent interview, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s son Nick opened up about his upcoming musical adaptation of Antoine De Saint-Exupery’s classic children’s book The Little Prince, which will debut at the UK’s Lyric Belfast theater on December 1st.
Here’s what Nick had to say about it:
“[I'm] very nervous. In terms of the pressure, I’m very aware there’s going to be some… attention, but I’d just like to think that the show will be judged on its own merits. That’s all anyone can ask for.”
“For a long time, I dropped the Lloyd bit – to see what the reaction would be. I got some stuff on the radio – so I thought ‘OK, I’m obviously not a complete idiot.’ Then I thought, ‘Hang on, if other people are prepared to work with me without the surname then maybe I should just get on with it.’”
And here’s Nick on whether or not his dad helped out with The Little Prince:
“He’s too busy for one thing. We did send him Act 1 when we finished it. I said to him, ‘Be honest – don’t be Dad, be composer.’ And he gave us some notes – some of which we agreed with, some of which we didn’t.”
For those of you who haven’t read The Little Prince, here’s how it’s been described:
Written by Antoine De Saint-Exupery, THE LITTLE PRINCE tells the story of a pilot’s unexpected crash landing in the Sahara Desert. While in the desert, the pilot meets the Little Prince — a young boy from another planet. The Prince shares his unique adventures that he experienced while traveling throughout the solar system. The book has been adapted into 180 different languages, various musical interpretations (including a children’s version), and a film.
Such a wonderful, classic story! We’re VERY curious to see if it translates well into musical form!
What do U think? Will The Little Prince make a good stage musical???
